Herschelle Gibbs to coach a team for the first time
Many big names have joined the league which indicates Afghanistan cricket is set to get benefited from this tournament.
South African star cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has been appointed as the coach of the Speenghar Tigers in Sphageeza T20 cricket league. The league is held by Afghanistan Cricket Board and is set to commence from September 12. This will be the first coaching stint for Herschelle Gibbs since he has retired from all forms of cricket.
Interestingly, it has been reported that Gibbs has been working closely with Shahid Afridi, who is the captain of Speenghar Tigers. According to the Sports star, Gibbs had confirmed his involvement with Tigers. Afridi too had recently joined the team after his stint in T20 blast. Former Pakistan cricketer Abdul Razzaq has also joined the Amo Sharks as per reports.
“Yes, I will be joining the Speenghar Tigers as the coach,” said Gibbs in an interview with Sports Star Live. The Proteas star will travel over the next few days to join up with the side. The team will surely benefit from him as he was a fine international cricketer in his heydays.
More players to join the league
Afghanistan Cricket Board has been trying to involve more international players in the T20 league. The chief of the board confirmed that other Pakistan internationals, as well as players from the West Indies and Bangladesh, will also take part in the tournament. Shahid Afridi will come to play in Kabul. Only those Pakistani cricketers who have central contracts might not be available because of international commitments. The rest will come. We have also got NOC for the West Indies and Bangladesh players,” said Mashal.
The league comprises of 6 teams and the games will be played in round robin format. Each team will play the other once before the top 4 team qualify for the playoffs. The knockouts will include 2 qualifiers and one eliminator followed by the mega finale to find out the crowned champions.
