Not much has gone South Africa’s way in the ongoing Test series against India. India have made the tourists look like pedestrians and have already sealed the series by winning the first two Tests comprehensively. South Africa did start the series on a promising note when centuries from Dean Elgar and Quinton de Kock helped them score 431 in the first innings of the Vizag Test.

However, that was not at all the precursor of the things that were to follow. Since then, the tourists have only headed in the wrong direction with the formidable hosts all over them. While not many gave South Africa a chance of winning the series or even a Test, many had expected them to give India a tough fight. South Africa have been one of the best traveling sides in recent years and thus there were high expectations from them.

However, the Proteas have failed to justify their tag so far. They could not even challenge India in the first two games let alone beating them. The inexperienced South African batsmen proved no match for the likes of Jadeja, Ashwin, Shami and others. And what made things worse for the tourists is their poor luck with toss.

Toss has always played an important role in deciding the outcome of Tests in India. Teams who bat first gain the upper hand more often than not. However, South Africa could not win the toss in the first two games and ended up losing both the games. And in order to change his luck with the toss, South Africa captain Faf du Plessis came up with an innovative idea for the toss of the ongoing third game.

Faf du Plessis brought his teammate Temba Bavuma with himself for the toss. The skipper let Bavuma call when Virat Kohli tossed the coin. But the move did not work as Kohli won the toss again and decided to bat once again. India will be aiming to win the third Test too and register their first-ever whitewash win over South Africa.
