Since the inception of the premier competition in Asia, Nasir Jamshed and Mohammad Hafeez of Pakistan hold the highest partnership for the first wicket, as they raised 224 runs between them during a match against India in Mirpur in 2012. Nasir got 10 fours and a six in his 112 runs whereas Hafeez notched up 105 off 113 balls featuring nine fours and a solitary six.
Likewise, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir took the Lankan Lions by storm when they stitched 205 runs, making it the highest partnership for the second wicket in 2012. Kohli cracked seven boundaries in his 120-ball 108, meanwhile, Gambhir concluded his innings with a score of 100 off 118 balls in India’s 50-run win.
Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are the latest entrants in the list of highest partnership for third, they hold the record for highest run by batting pair for the third wicket with 233 runs. In the Super Four game against Pakistan on the rain-hit reserved day Kohli and Rahul went bonkers against the potential Pakistan bowlers, both registered their respective centuries helping India post a humungous total of 356/2 in 50 overs.
Similarly, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina scored 166 runs for the fourth wicket in India’s match against Hong Kong in 2008. The southpaw was adjudged player of the match for his 101 runs whereas skipper Dhoni remained unbeaten in his magnificent 109 runs.
In the 2010 Asia Cup, Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi and Umar Akmal raised the highest partnership for the fifth wicket in a match against Bangladesh. Afridi played a captain’s knock as he smashed a 60-ball 124, smoking 17 fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 206.66. Meanwhile, Umar got 50 off 57 balls as the pair stitched a record 137 runs for the fifth wicket.
