Kieron Pollard stirred up social media when he directed a tweet at former Indian cricketer, Aakash Chopra. Pollard later deleted that tweet, and while the motive behind the West Indian’s tweet is still unclear, it might have something to do with Chopra’s criticism of the all-rounder. The former Indian opener was quite critical of Pollard’s poor form in IPL 2022.
Mumbai Indians endured an abysmal season in this year’s IPL as they finished at the bottom of the table. The team underperformed as a unit but Pollard’s underwhelming performances struck out like a sore thumb. The former West Indies captain was eventually dropped from the squad in the latter stages as he managed just 144 runs in 11 innings.
The hard-hitting all-rounder has been one of the stalwarts of the MI squad for years and might feel a little hard done by all the criticism he has received after his poor showing in the IPL.
“Hope the fan base and followers increased @cricketaakash… keep it flowing .. #t20.!!” wrote Pollard in the deleted tweet.
Chopra had criticized Pollard for his awful performance in IPL 2022
Kieron Pollard has won five IPL titles with the Mumbai team and has been one of their most consistent performers over the years. He has led his side to victory single-handedly on numerous occasions. But with his poor form and lack of intent with the bat, the former Indian opener was opinionated on releasing the veteran all-rounder from the squad.
“I think we have seen the last of Kieron Pollard. INR 6 crores will be released if they don’t retain him. I think they can let Murugan Ashwin (INR 1.6 crore) go as well. I am not sure about Jaydev Unadkat (INR 1.3 crore) but they can definitely say bye-bye to Tymal Mills (INR 1.5 crore),” the ex-India cricketer said on his YouTube channel.
The cricketer-turned expert also expressed earlier in the season that young players should be given more chances in the team instead of Pollard as he does not offer much with the ball these days.
“Kieron Pollard should go and Dewald Brevis should come in. How many chances would you give to Pollard? He has just not been scoring runs. His bowling could be useful on this surface but you wouldn’t pick him in the team for his bowling. So I think the time has come to say tata bye-bye to Pollard,” added Chopra
