'Hopefully you will not tell my parents' - Ravichandran Ashwin hilariously roasts fan over controversial run-out debate
Ashwin is currently gearing up for India’s upcoming five-match Test series against hosts England.
The debate around running out non-strikers is here to stay, at least for a while. Although many prominent cricket stars are against the stance of running batsmen out before delivering the ball, the Indian off-spinner has been endorsing this method of dismissal vocally. The veteran cricketer also faces criticism for the same but it doesn’t seem to affect his viewpoint. On Wednesday (July 14), Ashwin once again made it crystal clear that he’ll run out any batsmen who dare to leave the crease.
It all started after a Twitter user took a dig at Ashwin for dismissing Jos Buttler in IPL 2019. He was commenting on a video showing a non-striker run-out by former captain Kapil Dev from a 1992 ODI game. Pointing out the difference between Ashwin and Dev’s action, the netizen called Dev’s move ‘fair’ as he had warned the non-striker and didn’t ‘wait’ for him to leave the crease.
At the same time, he opined that Ashwin deliberately waited for Buttler to go out of the line. “Kapil has played it very fair…by warning Kirsten once and not claiming the first time. More importantly, he did it by NOT stopping and waiting for Kirsten to go out of the crease. This is in the true spirit. @ashwinravi99 @DineshKarthik @bhogleharsha @vijaylokapally @kartikmurali” said the user.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s epic reply to Twitter user
Ashwin didn’t hold back in coming across the comment and declared that he will continue to stick to his stance. He even took a hilarious dig at the Twitter user, sarcastically requesting him not to complain his parents.
“I would do it again if a batsman goes out of the crease. I would also like to seek your permission to do the same cos if a bowler needs to run a batter out that way, he/she needs to premeditate the same and hopefully, you will approve of the same and not tell my parents about it,” wrote Ashwin on the micro-blogging website.
Meanwhile, Ashwin is currently gearing up for India’s upcoming five-match Test series against hosts England, starting from August 4. The spinner’s preparations are on song as he took a six-wicket haul in Surrey’s recent County Championship game against Somerset. He would like to replicate his heroics again the Three Lions as well.
