I am not worthy of a Nobel Peace Prize, says Imran Khan after releasing Abhinandan Varthaman
Imran had released the Indian pilot as 'gesture of peace'.
The tensions between India and Pakistan escalated in the last few days in the aftermath of the Pulwama attack. In response to India’s air-strikes on the terrorist camps, Pakistan also targetted India’s military installations which led to the tensions increasing with every passing day. Moreover, India’s IAF Pilot Abhinandan Varthaman was in Pakistan’s custody for close to 60 hours after which the Prime Minister Imran Khan decided to release him as the ‘gesture of peace’.
Soon after his step there was calls from Pakistan citizens for Imran to be honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize. However, the man himself feels that he isn’t worthy of the same and also added that the award should be given to the one who will solve the Kashmir dispute.
“I am not worthy of the Nobel Peace prize. The person worthy of this would be the one who solves the Kashmir dispute according to the wishes of the Kashmiri people and paves the way for peace & human development in the subcontinent,” Imran’s tweet read.
India to play Pakistan in World Cup?
Meanwhile, there is still uncertainty over India playing Pakistan in the upcoming World Cup in England. The BCCI has already cleared that the decision on the matter will be taken by the Indian Government. They had requested the ICC to sever ties with the nation harbouring the terrorists in a letter written to the world cricket body. However, the ICC denied the same saying that they are not the ones to take such decisions.
“As you would expect for a global sporting event, the ICC, in partnership with the ECB has a robust security plan in place for the Men’s Cricket World Cup. We work closely with the authorities in our host countries to ensure that the safety of players, officials and fans is a priority,” the ICC CEO David Richardson said.
