The inclusion of Ravichandran Ashwin in the playing XI has been a hot topic of discussion for a long time now. The spinner hasn’t made it to the squad in straight three Test matches. Ravindra Jadeja is selected ahead of him as a lone spinner as the team has gone with four pacers. The England all-rounder Moeen Ali also expressed a little surprise on Ashwin’s omission from the side.
After Shardul Thakur got injured ahead of the second Test it was assumed that Ashwin might replace him. But India went with the experienced speedster, Ishant Sharma. After India lost the third Test match, the cricketing experts have been suggesting to play both Ashwin and Jadeja in the side.
Moeen Ali, however, spoke about the playing conditions of England. He put forward the thought that there is always a bit of spin on the surface. Ali further stated that Jadeja is one of his favorite players in the world. He also asserted that the Indian team must be considering the inclusion of Ashwin for the upcoming Test.
“Jadeja is one of my favorite cricketers in the world. I will always have him on my team. India after winning at Lord’s would have gone with the four-seamers. But I am sure Ashwin has been considered and will be considered for tomorrow,” Moeen said in the press conference ahead of the fourth Test.
Englishmen are wary of Ravi Ashwin’s abilities: Bharat Arun
India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun said that the England side is aware of how lethal Ashwin can be on tracks that assist spin. According to him, this might result in certain tweaks in the nature of the pitch. He stated that the call on the spinner’s inclusion will be taken after assessing the pitch in the morning.
“History at the Oval says that it aids spin but you also know how the Englishmen are wary of Ashwin’s abilities of what he could do if there is any assistance from the track. The best thing would be to decide after looking at the track tomorrow morning as anything could happen between now and tomorrow. So we look at it tomorrow morning and decide,” Arun said as reported by TOI.
