I and Rishabh Pant have a friendly equation and help each other whoever gets into the XI: Wriddhiman Saha

India was recently up against Australia for the limited-overs series, which was followed by Border Gavaskar Trophy. The extraordinary show and efforts by team India were lauded around the whole world when they came victorious from the land of Kangaroos despite having all odds on their side. In the same scenario, India had to make a tough choice between their wicketkeeper going into the Test series. Firstly, the nod was given to Wriddhiman Saha for Adelaide Test, but Rishabh Pant got to display his class in the remaining three Tests.

People assumed that since senior of the two, Saha, was rested for the last three Tests, there could have been a rift between him and Pant. However, in the latest turn of events, Saha has cleared that there is no such issue between them. He stated that they have a friendly equation and help each other when they land in playing XIs. It is a clear fact that whoever performs better will be given chance with the team, Saha added.

“You can ask him (Pant), we have a friendly relationship and help each other whoever gets into the XI. Personally, there’s no conflict with him. I don’t see who is No.1 or 2. The team will give a chance to those who do better. I will continue to do my job. Selection is not in my hands, it’s up to the management. No one learns algebra in class I. You always go step by step. He is giving his best and will definitely improve. He has matured and proved himself. In the long run, it augurs well for the Indian team,” said Saha as quoted by News18.

Saha also added that Pant has shown great intent in the Test series after being sidelined from the limited-overs. The senior wicketkeeper-batsman stated that Pant was preferred over him because he couldn’t perform well with the bat in the first Test in Adelaide. He has been working since then to improve his skills for the coming games, he concluded.

“I was unable to score runs that’s why Pant got the chance. It’s as simple as that. I always focused on improving my skills. It’s the same approach now,” said Saha
