I can watch KL Rahul bat every single day: Brian Lara
Rahul now has scored three consecutive fifty-plus scores in as many outings this seasons
KL Rahul lit up the Wankhede stadium with his scintillating century against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Wednesday. He paced his innings perfectly on the day. When Chris Gayle was going great guns, he played second fiddle rotating the strike while also hitting an odd boundary. But once his opening partner got out, Rahul controlled the innings superbly and most importantly, batted through the innings to remain unbeaten on 100.
His knock helped the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) post a mammoth total of 197 runs on the board. Though it wasn’t enough for his team to win the match, Rahul has won Brian Lara’s heart with his knock. The former Windies cricketer is a part of the analysis team for Star Sports this year and he was in awe of Rahul.
“I like him as a batsman. He has got a great technique, he has got a lot of style. Chris Gayle got out and he knew he had to bat till the end. To get a hundred in an IPL game is amazing. I just love the way he bats and I can watch him bat every single day,” Lara said in the post-match show on Star Sports.
Rahul’s opportune knock
Meanwhile, KL Rahul’s knock comes at a perfect time with India’s World Cup squad set to be announced on April 15. Though the chief selector MSK Prasad has already clarified that the IPL performances won’t be taken into consideration, this century from Rahul must’ve surely relieved him a bit. He was being looked at as the back-up opener all these days and could well make it to the 15-man squad now.
Moreover, the confidence also plays its part at the international level and the way KL Rahul batted on Wednesday, the talented cricketer might have got into the beast mode now. His last three innings in the IPL are all fifty-plus scores and the fans will hope that he continues in the same vein.
