'I don't want sympathy' - Kamran Akmal requests Peshawar Zalmi to release him ahead of PSL 2022
Kamran Akmal admitted that being drafted into a lower category was difficult to accept for him.
All the teams have announced the list of players that they would like to retain ahead of the 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). And, Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal was acquired up by the Peshawar Zalmi side in the silver category.
But then, Akmal has revealed that he does not want to feature in the 2022 edition of the PSL. Akmal added that he does not deserve to be playing in the Silver category as the lower categories are for the youngsters. The 39-year-old veteran even said that he does not want the sympathy of the Peshawar Zalmi franchise.
“Please release me because I don’t deserve to play in this category. The lower categories are better suited for youngsters. I don’t want Peshawar Zalmi’s sympathy just because I have played for them in the past six seasons,” said Akmal on his YouTube channel.

Kamran Akmal also added that he was taken by surprise when he was demoted to the Gold category in spite of him performing well. Adding that he had motivated himself to play, Akmal admitted that being drafted into a lower category was difficult to accept for him. The dashing wicketkeeper batter concluded by stating that the money he is getting paid is not the issue here.
“I was surprised with my category demotion from Platinum to Gold despite my good track record. I had motivated myself to play even when I was demoted to the Gold category. But suddenly being drafted into a lower category, after having done well for so many years, is very difficult. While they agreed to pay me the salary as per the Gold category, it’s not about the money,” concluded Kamran Akmal.
Kamran Akmal is the second-highest run-scorer in the PSL and has plundered 1820 runs in the tournament. He has also scored a whopping 3 centuries in the tournament as well.
