Former England cricketer David Lloyd has expressed his disappointment around Virat Kohli’s gestures on the field in the third Test against England at Headingley in Leeds. He noted that Kohli, despite being such a big cricketer finds a way in which he can constantly ask questions to the on-field umpires. The cricketer-turned commentator pointed out an incident during the first day’s play in Headingley.

While addressing the issue, David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd took the example of the first over of England’s first innings in Leeds. Ishant Sharma bowled a wayward over and had a terrible start to his spell. In the first few deliveries, Sharma overstepped a few times and then bowled a wide. Kohli was standing in the slips and looked a little unhappy with what the umpire Alex Wharf had called and seemed to show some gestures.

“Virat Kohli is one of the great players, but I find it so disappointing that he constantly questions umpires’ decisions. Ishant Sharma overstepped twice in his first over, then bowled an off-side wide, which was correctly called by Alex Wharf. From first slip, Kohli was clearly unhappy, and made his feelings known,” Lloyd wrote in his Daily Mail column.

The former cricketer further said that the umpires should have the power to penalize the player whenever something is not correct. “At the end of the over, he took it up again. It’s just wide! Every time, India does well on the field the air just wants to praise the captain, but one bad day on the field can make people turn back and ask questions.

The first day of the England-India third Test went heavily in the favour of the hosts. After winning the toss for the first time in a Test in England, Virat Kohli decided to bat first. India was rolled out for just 78 runs, with Kohli himself scoring just seven runs. By the end of the day’s play, England had piled on India’s misery and scored 120 for no loss.
