I have learned a lot from MS Dhoni, says Virat Kohli

It is not for the first time that Virat Kohli has gone vocal about the learnings that he has imbibed from MS Dhoni in his career as a player for India. It is a well-known fact that Virat holds immense respect for the veteran, not only as someone who was his first skipper but also as a guide both on and off the field.

The current Indian skipper has grown over the years as a leader of the team and still continues to be a great learner of the game. He gives the due credit to Dhoni who made it possible for the youngster to be felt at home in his early days.

I keep talking to him about the game

Virat Kohli has been a great admirer of Dhoni as a leader and has gone about picking up his brain in the past four years of his captaincy stint. When asked about whether he followed someone else as the skipper, Virat replied, “Not really anyone before MS. I was always someone who kept talking to him about the game so even when I was really young before I was made vice-captain, I would give him my suggestions,” he told Wisden

“I love thinking about the game and that’s why I enjoy captaincy so much and I enjoy chasing totals so much – I love using my brain to figure out what needs to be done during the game. I’ve learned the most from MS, standing so close to him at slip so many times and just observing him at close quarters,” he remarked.

Great transition after Dhoni relinquished the job

It was so remarkable to see the kind of transition when MS Dhoni stepped down as the skipper of the team with Virat taking up the responsibility of taking the team forward. The duo shares a great camaraderie with huge respect for each other. Time and again Dhoni has been seen sharing his insights with Virat in making certain field placements and timely bowling changes for the better cause of the team.
