I have no idea about it, says Rohit Sharma on MS Dhoni’s gloves controversy
ICC has rejected BCCI's request to let MS Dhoni wear the Balidaan Badge.
MS Dhoni was spotted sporting the ‘Balidaan Badge’ of the Indian Para Special Forces on his wicket-keeping gloves in India’s first World Cup game against South Africa. After being made aware of the same, the International Cricket Council (ICC) asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to get the symbol removed from his gloves. The apex body of the sport stuck to its decision as it was against the rules despite the Indian board requesting them to let Dhoni wear the badge on his gloves.
The whole nation has supported MS Dhoni on the matter with even some hashtags trending on social media. While some of the current and former cricketers also backed the veteran for his gesture which also won the hearts of the fans, Sunil Gavaskar felt that the rules are there to follow and, in a way, supported the ICC.
With ICC’s final decision coming out on Friday, the focus now shifts to the upcoming marquee clash between India and Australia. The two teams will fight it out at The Oval on Sunday and will look to overpower each other in a crucial encounter. However, in the pre-match press conference, Rohit Sharma had to face the question about the controversy which the Indian opener tackled smartly.
I am not the captain
Rohit Sharma, the centurion of the previous game, answered several questions related to the game. But when asked about MS Dhoni’s gloves controversy, India’s vice-captain cleared that he is no idea of it whatsoever. To evade more questions on the matter, Rohit said, “I have no idea about it at all. I am not the captain I don’t know what is happening with that and have nothing to say about it. Let’s see what happens tomorrow.”
As far s MS Dhoni is concerned, he will have to take the field with no Balidaan Badge on his gloves with the ICC rejecting BCCI’s request. If he does that, the former India captain might have to face a ban then according to the ICC regulations.
