Ahmed Shehzad’s recent batting performances have hampered his way to cement his spot in the national side. A string of disappointing batting displays has served as a roadblock in the right-hander’s career. Shehzad has been absent from the national team since 2017. He was recalled for T20Is against Sri Lanka earlier this year but was dropped after two unimpressive innings.

After being sidelined due to a drug ban, the 27-year-old was given a chance to prove himself in the T20I series against Sri Lanka in Lahore in October. However, Shehzad failed to seize the opportunity and could only gather 4 and 13 runs in the two T20 Internationals.

Speaking to media in Karachi, the batsman also said that he has been working on his form for the last two years and has been successful to improve his game. The right-hander, who has scored 2605 runs in 81 ODIs stated that he does not regret being dropped. Shehzad has also scored six tons at an average of 32.6 in ODIs. Shehzad has represented Pakistan in 13 Tests and has amassed 982 runs at an average of 40.9.

“I can only try to give my best, the results are not always in my hands. What I have in my hands is my effort, my dedication, my hard work, and my discipline, and I can assure you that there won’t be any compromise on these things,” Shehzad was quoted by GeoTV.

Ahmed Shehzad emphasized on giving importance to domestic matches

“I have learned one thing in my life, and that is to give your best and give 100 per cent to whatever you’re doing. I have worked hard in the last two years and if you’ll see my daily routine now, you’ll be impressed,” he further said.

Shehzad refused to compare the old and new team management of Pakistan. He instead emphasized on giving importance to first-class cricket. Shehzad opined that domestic cricket plays a vital role in making a player mature.

“The real cricket is test cricket and for the longer format of the game, you get players from first-class cricket. This cricket makes a player mature and it is important to give importance to domestic matches,” stated Shehzad.
