Former Lanka batter Mahela Jayawardene was currently working with Sri Lanka national team as the batting consultant in Oman. In the latest turn of events, he has decided to leave the foreign land and fly back home ahead of the Super 12 stage. Jayawardene confirmed these developments to the media and stated that prolonged stays in bio bubble and quarantine is affecting him now.

However, Jayawardene confirmed that he will be there for his team’s service all the way from home with the help of technology. It has to be noted that Sri Lanka has already advanced to the Super 12 stage from Group A. They won two out of two initial games and a great NRR also helped their cause.

The former Lankan batter added that he has been in the bio bubble since June and hasn’t seen his daughter for 135 days now. Being a father, he cannot afford so much time away from home, the batting consultant added.

“It’s tough. I just counted that I have been 135 days in quarantine and bubbles since June and I am in (the) last legs. But I totally understand and I told them I will be with the group with the technology that we have. I hope that anyone can understand that being a father that I haven’t seen my daughter for that many days. I definitely need to get back home,” said Jayawardene while speaking to Sportskeeda.

Before taking up the charge of batting consultant for Sri Lanka, Jayawardene was busy in coaching duties with Southern Braves in England’s new 100-ball format game The Hundred. The team went on to bag the title in the inaugural edition itself and he then moved for the second leg of IPL 2021 to be with Mumbai Indians. It is to be noted that though Mumbai couldn’t advance to the playoffs stage in IPL 2021, the former batter is lauded for MI’s immense success over the years.

As SL have already moved to the Super 12 stage, it remains to be seen how they step up against cricketing giants in the world.
