The game between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ended with a huge controversy on Thursday. The straight umpire Ulhas Gandhe first signalled a waist height no-ball and then had to revoke his decision on the insistence from the square leg umpire Bruce Oxenford. But the earlier no-ball signal was spotted by many and the officials revoking the decision didn’t do down well with MS Dhoni.
He was infuriated with the umpiring as the match was hanging absolutely in the balance in the last over. Dhoni stormed onto the field to discuss and get more clarity on the incident. He was seen pointing at the umpire in a heated argument and no-ball wasn’t called even after that. More drama followed after as CSK won the match with Mitchell Santner smacking a six when his team needed four off the final ball.
However, MS Dhoni losing his cool and getting angry was the talk of the town more than CSK’s victory. The cricket experts and former cricketers deemed his actions wrong and felt he shouldn’t have stepped on the field and disrespect the umpires.
Vaughan comes down hard at Dhoni
Even the former England cricketer Michael Vaughan was of the same opinion and he came down hard at MS Dhoni. He was clear in his mind that a captain is not allowed to go on the field and point the finger at the officials. Vaughan also went on to say that the veteran Indian cricketer wasn’t setting a great example with his actions and what he did was absolutely wrong.
“The skipper coming from the dugout onto the pitch…cannot happen. I know he’s MS Dhoni, I know he can do what he wants in this country. But you’re not allowed to leave the dugout as a skipper and point your finger at the umpire out in the middle. Sorry, that is a no-no. You cannot be sending out that message, you can’t be setting that example as captain.
Sometimes things don’t go your way, you go sit in that dugout and give it a little bit of that. But you can’t storm on the pitch. I know MS you’re a legend but you can’t storm on the pitch,” he said while speaking to Cricbuzz.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni was fined 50% of his match fee after the game for breaching the IPL’s code of conduct and the CSK skipper accepted the sanction.
