'I sit down and think, what if he was here' - Virat Kohli opens up about his late father

Indian skipper Virat Kohli is one of the greatest batsmen of the modern era. He averages over 50 in every format of the game, and during the course of his cricketing journey that has lasted over a decade, he has already broken several records and is considered as one of the greatest batsmen to have played the game.

Virat Kohli’s father, Prem Kohli passed away in the year 2006, and he could not see his son representing India. And, when asked if he still misses his father, Kohli opened up on this topic.

The Indian batting legend stated that even today he still ponders over how things would have been if his father was alive. He even stated that when he sees his daughter and sees the happiness on his mother’s face, he thinks about his late father.

“He hasn’t seen me play for India. Now with our daughter, I see the happiness in my mother’s face. You sit down and think, what if he was here,” said Kohli during a chat with Dinesh Karthik.

India’s veteran cricketer Dinesh Karthik took to Twitter to share a brief clipping of him speaking to Virat Kohli. Karthik tweeted that he spoke to the superstar of world cricket about fatherhood, spirituality, his love life, social media as well as the Indian cricket team.

Virat Kohli will next be seen on the cricket field on 4th August 2021, when he leads the Indian cricket team in a five-match Test series against England. The first Test between these two sides will begin on 4th August 2021, at Nottingham. This challenging Test series against Joe Root and his men will be the first assignment for the Indian side in the second cycle of the World Test Championship.
