Indian cricketer MS Dhoni turned former international cricketer as he announced his retirement from limited-overs cricket on August 15, 2020 (Saturday). Living up to his name, the former Indian captain silently walked away from the gentleman’s game without any farewell, honor, or press conference.

Dhoni transformed the image of the Indian cricket team as under his leadership the team registered victory in all the three ICC tournaments; ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophy. MS is also hailed as one of the best finishers to have embraced the modern game of cricket.

In a career that spanned over 17 glorious international years, the Ranchi Stalwart represented India in 538 matches scoring 17,266 runs, 16 centuries, 108 half-centuries, 359 sixes, and 829 dismissals.

Ricky Ponting congratulates MS Dhoni

MSD’s decision of bidding adieu to the gentleman’s game came as a shocker for both his colleagues and fans. Soon after the announcement, the veteran cricketer started trending on Twitter as millions of fans across the globe paid tribute to a man who was a captain, leader, legend, mentor, and friend.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting also congratulated the Indian legend on his golden international career and brilliant contribution to the sport. Notably, both the former cricketers are hailed as the best captains to ever have captained their respective national teams.

Ponting tweeted, “Congrats @msdhoni on a brilliant international career. I loved and enjoyed every contest we had as players and now I still have to find ways to stop you winning games against the @DelhiCapitals. Look forward to saying it in person in a few weeks time.”

Ponting and Dhoni are expected to meet each other in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League which is all set to kick-start from September 19, with the final to take place on November 10 in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

While MS Dhoni will lead his IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings in a hope to register title victory for the fourth time, Ponting will essay the role of the head coach for Delhi Capitals in the 2020 edition of the T20 league. DC is yet to win an IPL title so far.
