Former Australian spinner Bradd Hogg, who plied his trade for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2015-16 season, stated earlier this month that the equation between Andre Russell and skipper Dinesh Karthik could turn bad for the team.

The rumours of their rift caught fire when Russell at a press conference last year, pointed fingers on some decisions made by the franchise. Though Karthik has assured that things are sorted between them during his last interview, there are still some doubts hovering over the same.

Fans and teammates are worried that if things don’t turn smooth between the duo, it can hurt the team. However, former Australian batsman David Hussey has denied of any such matter in a recent interaction. Hussey has stepped up as a mentor of the KKR team this year. In fact, he is of the opinion that both the players are pretty close.

“There is no rift or anything there. Actually, I think there is a bit of bromance there, and they are pretty close, which is fantastic for the group. Karthik is a straightforward person who backs his teammates to get the job done. It’s a good sign of leadership. He is high maintenance at times because he loves the game of cricket. There is no malice… he only cares about winning the game,” Hussey said in an interview to The Indian Express.

The 42-year-old also added that the pair of Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik seems strong enough to give KKR a desired start. With the added benefit of Russell as hitter and finisher, things can get going in the favour of the team.

“Morgan is a classy-middle order player. Along with DK, I am sure it will be a fantastic partnership on the field. DK from behind the stumps and Morgan can be sort of the vice-captain and help the bowlers out in certain situations. He will fit in perfectly,” Hussey concluded.

The much-awaited Indian Premier League will commence on September 19 in UAE. KKR will play its first match on September 23 against Mumbai Indians. The season opener is slated to take place between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.
