Mumbai Indians is the only team to open their account in the ongoing Indian Premier League. The Rohit Sharma-led side lost all the games in a very close manner. MI bowlers conceded their first two games to CSK and SRH by one wicket. They lost their third game off the final ball when Jason Roy lofted the ball and propelled his DD side to victory by 7 wickets.
For Mumbai Indians, Suryakumar Yadav was the top-scorer against Delhi Daredevils with 53 runs off 32 balls. He felt that their batsmen fell short by 10 to 15 runs. He went on to add that DD batsmen never gave a chance to their bowlers to settle and that resulted in MI’s third consecutive defeat.
“I think we were about 10 to 15 runs short. Anything over 180 is a good score on any ground. It was a defendable total. But when we started bowling, we could not find any momentum. We could not get early wickets. They didn’t give us any chance till the 12th over or so,” Yadav said as per the quotes on MI official website.
A surprise to see Suryakumar batting up the order
Many were surprised to see Surya as the opener in the game. When asked about the idea of him opening the batting, Surya added that the team management asked if he can bat and the batsman was totally fine to follow the decision, which turned out to be a brilliant one for the home side.
“Actually, they (team management) came up to me after the last game and asked if I would like to bat up the order. I said yes because I am flexible like that. They first said I would have to bat at No. 3. But, on Friday, I was asked if I could open the innings, especially because we were going to play at the Wankhede. I said I don’t mind opening the innings as well. I have played most of my cricket here. Also, my record in the recent T20 Mumbai League was good as well,” Yadav added.
