Delhi Capitals (DC) coach Ricky Ponting is all praises for the team’s opening batter Prithvi Shaw and has said that his game reminds him of his good old days. Shaw has started off well in IPL 2022 and has gone to score two half-centuries in the previous two games. He has been a part of DC since 2018 and was retained by the franchise before the mega auction this year.

Ponting has worked on Shaw personally during his time with the team and has always praised him for his skills. Speaking of just that, he revealed that he wants to look after Shaw personally, in a way that the youngster is ready to play for India in over 100 Test matches.

“If I look at Prithvi’s play, he has got every bit as much talent as I had, if not more, and I want to be able to turn him into a player that plays over 100 Test matches for India and represents his country as much as possible,” Ponting said on the Delhi Capitals podcast.

Ponting also talked about his time training Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya

Ricky Ponting also talked about the time he spent at the Mumbai Indians camp, training players like Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya, and emphasized their current form in the game. “If I look back through the teams that I’ve been around, when I took over the Mumbai Indians, Rohit was very young, Hardik Pandya hadn’t played, Krunal hadn’t played. A lot of the guys that I have coached there have gone on to play cricket for India, and that’s what I want to do here,” he added.

Shaw was given his maiden India call-up in 2018 to play against the West Indies, but could not keep his place intact as he underwent a couple of injuries, leading to fitness problems and inconsistent performances in the game. Since David Warner’s return to the Delhi camp, the team’s top order has grown even stronger. In their previous encounter against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the two put up an opening stand of 93 runs, giving their team a dream start.
