Recently, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja shared his thoughts on revamping the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in order to make overseas players to prefer PSL over Indian Premier League (IPL). His statements sparked a controversy as the Indian cricket fans started criticizing Ramiz over his remarks.

Last month, the  Raja, the current PCB chairman, had stated his thoughts and views on the long-standing debate of IPL vs PSL. He made the statement just when BCCI planned to tap the market for the IPL media rights.

In an interview last month, he said: “This is a game of money. When the cricket economy grows in Pakistan, our respect will rise. The main driver of that financial economy is the PSL. If we take the PSL to the auction model and increase the purse, then I’ll put it in the IPL bracket. And then we’ll see who goes to play the IPL over the PSL.”

I know where the economy of India is and where is Pakistan’s: Ramiz Raja

On Sunday, April 3, Ramiz cleared the air around the statement he made, saying that he was misquoted by the media and that he was aware of the economic conditions of the two nations. “I was misquoted. I know where the economy of India is and where is Pakistan’s. We have plans to improve the PSL. We will bring in the auction model but I was misquoted on the other part,” he said while speaking to Cricbuzz.

On the other hand, he also spoke about the proposal he is set to make in the upcoming ICC board meeting, scheduled next week in Dubai. Raja said that he will will be proposing a four-nation tournament between India, Pakistan, Australia, and England be conducted.

“I don’t know how the ICC members will receive it but how long can we allow ourselves to be dictated by politics between countries? Star Sports had made a presentation at the last ICC board meeting where it said the India-Pakistan game at the Twenty20 World Cup broke all viewership records. Why don’t we have more of what the fans want?” he said.
