If there is one debate that spurs everyone up at the moment, then it has to be the Sachin-Virat debate. Everywhere the comparisons between the great Sachin Tendulkar and the current Indian skipper Virat Kohli could be heard. Hence, there is one question on everybody’s mind. Who is better?

It is rather difficult to assess and say affirmatively that one of them is better. Tendulkar played in a different generation while Kohli is playing another. Both players have done exceptionally well and have led the Indian team’s batting on their back. Australia’s head coach Justin Langer had a say on this debate. He didn’t choose one but instead said he wanted to have both of them in his side. The Western Australian was all praise for Sachin whom he’s played against. He termed the master’s batting as meditation and his records as ‘peerless’.

“I would like to have them both in my team. Sachin was an incredible cricketer. I used to watch him and it was like he was meditating. He was so calm and that’s why his record is peerless,” Langer said after Australia’s narrow loss to India in the second ODI.

On the other hand, the Aussie head coach applauded Kohli’s ability to play shots all around the ground and saved special mention for his balance. “Virat is doing the same thing. He is so calm and so competitive, and technically his balance is unbelievable. For him to play 360-degree shots in all formats of the game, his balance is unbelievable,” he added.

Blessing in disguise for the Australian players

Justin Langer continued praising the Indian skipper for his attitude and hunger for runs. He lauded Kohli’s concentration power and termed him as one of the greats. In fact, he feels that the current Australian players are lucky enough to witness some of the great ODI players of all-time from close quarters.

He deemed MS Dhoni as another great player, someone who has an average of over 50 in 340 games. Hence, Langer was happy that his team has the best seat in the house to experience some of the quality innings and hoped they can learn from this experience.
