Soon after his comeback to international cricket post the ban, David Warner managed to create an impact. He had a terrific World Cup 2019 and was amongst the leading run-scorers in the tournament. Back then, the 32-year-old seemed to be in sublime form and was hitting the ball really well. However, in a matter of a few weeks, things have turned upside down quite literally.

David Warner hasn’t been able to replicate his white-ball success in red-ball cricket. Thus far in Ashes 2019, he has had a torrid time. Warner has hardly got any runs under his belt and has particularly struggled against Stuart Broad. The pacer, coming from around the wicket, has created tough angles for the batsman and he hasn’t been able to negate those.

David Warner’s troubles against Broad continue

Stuart Broad has managed to bring the ball back in and take it away from the left-hander as well. Thus, Warner has looked quite indecisive about playing or leaving deliveries. Moreover, his foot movement hasn’t been really encouraging and that has led to his downfall up to a certain extent. In the fourth Test, David Warner got out to Broad yet again in this series.

Out of the seven times that he has batted, Stuart Broad has got his number on five occasions. Except for a half-century that he scored in the third Test, the New South Wales cricketer has got out for single-digit scores on all the other occasions. In the last two innings that he batted, he has bagged back-to-back ducks leading to further disappointment.

ICC took this opportunity to hilariously troll David Warner for his troubles against the English pacer. Just before the innings began, Cricket Australia posted a picture of Warner and wrote: “David Warner resumes his battle with Stuart Broad… #Ashes”. But since the batsman got out for a second-ball duck, the social media handle of the apex cricket council decided to have some fun. Replying to the previous tweet, they wrote: “This aged well #Ashes,”. Thus far in the series, David Warner has registered scores of 2, 8, 2, 5, 61, 0 and 0. He has got to gain his confidence back soon if he is to make an impact in the series.
