ICC refuses to comment on PCB’s claims of a terror threat on team India in West Indies

An email of a possible terror attack on Team India in the West Indies stunned everyone. Reportedly, it was received by both Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Though it has been told that it was a hoax terror threat and the Indian team is absolutely safe at the moment in the Caribbean islands. However, the BCCI hasn’t compromised with the security which has increased following the terror threat.

Interestingly, it was first reported that the PCB has received a tip-off about the threat and the board claimed to have informed the same to the International Cricket Council (ICC). Even the PCB chairman Ehsan Mani acknowledged the fact but refused to comment stating that the ICC can give more information on the matter.

“I am aware of this, but you should coordinate with the ICC. I don’t want to comment further,” he said while speaking to Mumbai Mirror.

ICC reacts

Meanwhile, the ICC has neither confirmed nor denied the PCB’s claims of informing it about the hoax email. An official stated that they don’t comment on the security issues. Moreover, the security manager of the BCCI Ajit Singh feels that the matter shouldn’t be blown out of proportion and also confirmed that the necessary steps have been taken.

Indian team’s security has been beefed up following the incident and even the Indian High Commission is informed of the terror threat who in turn have made aware of it to the local government. The Indian team manager Sunil Subramaniam has also confirmed that adequate measures have been taken to ensure the players’ safety in the Caribbean islands.

As far as the team is concerned, it is currently playing the three-day practice game in Antigua and has been performed extremely well. Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit Sharma shined with the bat while the bowlers bundled out the West Indies A side for just 181.
