ICC releases the schedule of Team India for next five years
Here's the detailed schedule of the Indian team until 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the schedule of Team India for the next five years. The Men in Blue are set to embark on the tough tour of the United Kingdom soon where they will play 2 T20Is against Ireland, 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 5 Tests against England. They are also set to tour Australia at the end of this year which will round off the tough season for them even as the World Test Championship will commence in 2019.
Before travelling down under, Virat Kohli and his men will be participating in Asia Cup which is set to be held in Spetember in the United Arab Emirates. The festive season begins in October in the country as the Caribbean nation will tour India for 3 Tests, 5 One-Day Internationals and 3 T20Is which is expected to end in the second week of November after which the team will leave for Australia.
What about future tours?
While the ICC Cricket World Cup will be played until July next year, the World Test Championship will commence soon after the mega event. Windies will be the first opponent for the current number 1 Test side as they will tour the island nation for 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and the same number of T20 Internationals. The home season will begin for the team then which will see India hosting South Africa, Bangladesh, Windies and Australia in a total of 5 Test matches, 6 ODIs and 3 T20Is.
India’s schedule ahead of World T20 in 2020 in Australia is also interesting as they will face the hosts in 3 matches and then participate in the mega event and then will play 4 Tests and 3 50-over matches against them. The start of 2021 will see India hosting England for 5 Tests and Afghanistan for 3 ODIs. Meanwhile, the Test Championship will be done and dusted and then the final will be played in June at the Lord’s.
Interestingly, India will be again involved in a 5-match Test series against England in their own den in July-August after which yet another edition of the ICC World T20 will take place in 2021 as the event replaced the ICC Champions Trophy. It is likely that India will host the tournament given the fact that Champions Trophy was set to be held in the same country.
Overall, the schedule follows the format of the new Test and ODI league. The FTP has covered the scheduling for the next five-year playing cycle until 2023 as India will contest six series (home and away) in the Test Championship within each two-year cycle. The ODI league will see the teams playing 8 three-match series from 2020 to 2022.
