There was an upset on the first day of the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019 itself. Singapore edged past the favourites Scotland in a thriller. They stunningly defended 168 and didn’t let Scotland score the required 8 runs in the final over of the innings. The result of this match has cleared that nothing could be taken for granted and all the teams have to give their best shot to come up trumps. In another Group A encounter of the day, the Netherlands defeated Kenya by 30 runs which was expected.

The second day of the tournament will see three Group A matches being played. While Papua New Guinea and Bermuda will get their campaign underway to start the day in the morning, Scotland and Kenya will face-off in the afternoon. The Netherlands will also play their second game and it will be against Namibia.

Pitch Report

ICC Academy

The surface at the ICC Academy is looking good as the pitches are fresh. Though the teams batting first are at an advantage which means the trend is continuing. Expect the teams batting first to post a decent total and then put pressure on the chasing side.

ICC Academy Ground No.2

This venue hosted three practice matches before the start of the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019. The scores were in the range 160-170 and the same is expected to continue. However, at this venue, the teams are expected to field first after winning the toss.

Weather Report (Dubai)

There is no chance of raining at all during the matches in Dubai. The temperature will hover around 33-36 Degrees Celsius according to AccuWeather. The players might struggle to cope with the excessive heat in the middle as the sun will be out.

Match 5 – Papua New Guinea vs Bermuda

Papua New Guinea

Assad Vala-led Papua New Guinea side enter into this contest as the favourites. Tony Ura, Charles Amini and Sese Bau will be crucial for them with the bat. The bowling attack comprises of Pokana, Vanua and Amini as well. Chad Soper didn’t feature in any of the two warm-ups and the reason for the same is unknown. If he plays this game, he will definitely pick a few wickets.

Probable XI: Tony Ura, Assad Vala (C), Lega Siaka, Charles Amini, Sese Bau, Chad Soper/John Reva, Kiplin Doriga (WK), Norman Vanua, Jason Kila, Nosaina Pokana, Riley Hekure/Damien Ravu.

Bermuda

Delray Rawlins is an exceptional all-rounder and along with him, Kamau Leverock should look after scoring runs. The skipper Dion Stovell is a decent player while Allan Douglas can score some quick runs towards the end. Bermuda should be wary of their bowling and make sure that they don’t let the opposition batsmen off the hook.

Probable XI: Okera Bascome (WK), Dion Stovell (C), Kamau Leverock, Delray Rawlins, Allan Douglas, Janeiro Tucker, Deunte Darrell, Malachi Jones, Rodney Trott, George O’Brien, Derrick Brangman.

Match 7 – Netherlands vs Namibia

Netherlands

Batting line-up looks sorted for the Netherlands. Max O’Dowd, Ben Cooper and Ryan Ten Doeschate are some of the brilliant batsmen they have in their line-up. The skipper Pieter Seelaar and Roelof van der Merwe are important for them going ahead in the competition as the pitches will assist spinners more. The pacers should keep hitting the right areas to keep a lid on the run-scoring.

Probable XI: Max O’Dowd, Tobias Visée, Ben Cooper, Ryan ten Doeschate, Scott Edwards (WK), Pieter Seelaar (C), Roelof van der Merwe,  Fred Klaassen, Brandon Glover, Paul van Meekeren, Timm van der Gugten.

Namibia

A few of the names in the Namibia line-up are unknown but they can pack a punch and surprise the other teams. Stephan Baard is the best batsmen they possess while the all-rounder skipper Gerhard Erasmus has the ability to turn the game on its head. JP Kotze is also a decent batsman with JJ Smit being the other all-rounder in the side.

Probable XI: Stephan Baard, Niko Davin, Gerhard Erasmus (C), JP Kotze, Craig Williams, Jan Frylinck, Christi Viljoen, Zane Green (WK), Bernard Scholtz, Zhivago Groenewald, JJ Smit.

Match 8 – Scotland vs Kenya

Scotland

Scotland were at the receiving end of a huge upset on the opening day. They lost to Singapore and will have to shrug off the loss quickly to bring their campaign back on track. Tom Sole conceded a little too many runs in his four-over and he is likely to be replaced by Mark Watt in the line-up. The rest of the side did a fair enough job to retain their places in the side.

Probable XI: George Munsey, Kyle Coetzer (c), Ollie Hairs, Calum MacLeod, Richie Berrington, Matthew Cross (wk), Tom Sole/Mark Watt, Safyaan Sharif, Josh Davey, Alasdair Evans, Hamza Tahir.

Kenya

Kenya should quickly find players who can perform consistently for them. Collins Obuys was a class above the rest against the Netherlands on Friday and he remains the key. But the others should contribute somehow to keep the team ahead in the match. With Scotland already shocked, Kenya have a changed to spring a surprise by beating them. Expect Kenya to go in unchanged.

Probable XI: Dhiren Gondaria, Alex Obanda, Jasraj Kundi, Collins Obuya, Rakep Patel, Shem Ngoche (c), Irfan Karim (wk), Nelson Odhiambo, Lucas Oluoch, Elijah Otieno, Pushpak Kerai
