Not many had the patience to say Warnakulasuriya Patabendige Ushantha Joseph Chaminda Vaas is one of the best left-arm pacers, the cricketing world has witnessed. But the ICC has taken the bold move after Twitter extended their character limit from 140 to 280. The microblogging site will also make the changes available for most of the other languages.

According to its study, Twitter observed that nine percent of users used their maximum character count with 140, compared to only one percent that used the full quota of 280 available to them. Talking about the test phase, only five percent of those tested went over 140 and only two percent went over 190.

Many cricketers and cricket experts express their views on the game on the popular site and it will be worth watching how well they settle down in the new format. Just like many other users, the official site of ICC took advantage of the latest change and wrote the full names of Chaminda Vaas, Kumar Dharmasena, current Sri Lankan wicket-keeper Niroshan Dickwella and ace spinner Rangana Herath.

The Lankan team is currently in India to participate in a 3-match Test series, which will be followed by limited overs series. They will play a warm-up match at Kolkata’s Jadavpur University Campus Ground. The 1st test match begins on 16th November.

ICC’s witty tweet

The tweet read, “Thanks to #280characters, we can now use the following names! ??

Warnakulasuriya Patabendige Ushantha Joseph Chaminda Vaas
Handunnettige Deepthi Priyantha Kumar Dharmasena
Dickwella Patabendige Dilantha Niroshan Dickwella
Herath Mudiyanselage Rangana Keerthi Bandara Herath.”

Apart from this change, Twitter has also given a free hand on display name, as now the character limit has gone up from 20 to 50. Not all were happy with the latest change but only will tell whether the popular site will be benefited from the this.
