ICC U19 World Cup 2018: Shaheen Afridi rattles Ireland U19 with six-wicket haul
Pakistan U19 beat Ireland U19 by 9 wickets.
Team Pakistan had a terrible start to their ICC U19 World Cup 2018 campaign. They were humbled by the new big shots of U19 cricket – team Afghanistan in their opening encounter. Recently, the Men in Green had some sigh of relief after they registered their first win in the tournament. Riding on brilliant bowling by Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan U19 beat Ireland U19 by 9 wickets.
Tall, lanky pace bowler, Shaheen Afridi, has already been making big headlines in the recent times. He has not played First Class cricket yet, but his bowling is being talked about in the Pakistani cricket circles quite a lot. Certainly, he is being tipped as the next big thing in Pakistan cricket. The Pakistani soil is renowned to unearth talented pace bowlers, and Afridi seems to be the new kid on the rise.
In fact, Shaheen Afridi had recently fetched praises from legendary bowler Wasim Akram as well. The world cricket got their first impression on Afridi in the U19 World Cup though. And in the match against Ireland U19, the Irish side faced his wrath big time. Bowling one change in the match, Shaheen returned with exceptional figures of 6/15 in just 8.5 overs.
His sensational spell saw the Ireland side bundle out for a paltry 97. In response, Pakistan U19 chased down the total in mere 8.5 overs with 9 wickets in hand. Commenting on the spell bowled by Shaheen Afridi, the pacer dismissed Morgan Topping in the 6th over of the match.
A couple of overs later, he had the wicket of Irish skipper Harry Tector. Jamie Grassi, who had resisted till then from the other end, became the third victim for Afridi. Later in the innings, the pacer ran through the tail-enders to complete his six-wicket haul. His sheer pace and swing were a little too much to handle for the Irish batsmen.
