Afghanistan had a forgettable World Cup 2019 as they ended up losing all the nine matches they played at the tournament. The Afghans were regarded as the dark horses heading into the mega event but internal issues and poor performance from their star players didn’t allow the points to be added to their tally. Afghanistan did came close in as many as four matches but faltered at crucial junctures and conceded two points in all those. They thus broke the record held by Zimbabwe with seven losses in the 1992 edition. Overall, Afghans became only the 3rd side to lose as many as nine games in an ODI series/tournament. 17 – As many as 17 players featured in at least one game in the tournament for Afghanistan; the joint 2nd most number of players used by a team in a World Cup edition. Sri Lanka fielded 19 different players in 2015 while Zimbabwe in 2003 and England in 2011 also had 17 players playing at least one match. 133 – The first-ever World Cup century stand for Afghanistan came in their last game against the Windies. Ikram Ali Khil and Rahmat Shah shared 133 runs for the 2nd wicket during the run-chase. 194 & 9 – The Afghan skipper Gulbadin Naib scored 194 runs and took nine wickets from as many matches he played in the tourney. Only two captains in the history of World Cup scored 200+ runs and took 10+ wickets in the same edition. Sanath Jayasuriya in 2003 (321 runs and 10 wickets) and Kapil Dev in 1983 (303 runs and 12 wickets) are the other two. 1716 – Afghanistan batsmen aggregated 1716 runs in this World Cup but no one scored a century. These are the 2nd most number of batsmen runs for a team in a World Cup without an individual hundred. England batters amassed 1729 runs in the 1992 edition across ten games.
