ICC World Cup 2019: Is Ambati Rayudu taking an indirect dig at the Indian selectors?
Rayudu was one of the contenders for the number four slot in the Indian team.
Ambati Rayudu broke into the Indian ODI eleven back in 2013 against Zimbabwe and impressed with a knock of 63 not out at the Harare Sports Club. Thereafter, he proved his mettle and scored 743 runs in 27 innings at an average of 41.27. The selectors were impressed and the Guntur-born right-handed batsman was picked in the national squad for the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Unfortunately, he didn’t get to play a single match in the tournament, much to his disappointment. He made a comeback after the mega event and scored big in almost every game, but didn’t get to play for almost one year. Rayudu came back in 2016 against the same opposition and was sidelined after three matches. In 2017, Yuvraj Singh lost his spot in the Indian team and it left a huge void in the number four slot.
Rayudu misses out once again
Ambati strained for quite a while and did exceptionally in the 2018 edition of the IPL, representing the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Subsequently, he made it into the limited-overs team for India’s tour of England. However, he failed the yo-yo Test and was left out. It was in the 2018 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where he made his comeback in national colours after two years.
He kept piling on the runs and even Virat Kohli, the Indian captain, almost confirmed him a berth in the World Cup 2019 squad. To his agony, he lost form and kept succumbing to one failure after the other. Yesterday, India’s squad for the mega event was announced and Rayudu’s name wasn’t taken and it would’ve come as a shocker for the experienced Hyderabad batsman.
After the snub, Rayudu took to the Twitter and wrote something, which can be an indirect dig at the national selectors, headed by MSK Prasad, who attended the press conference yesterday in Mumbai. Rayudu wrote, “Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup,”
