ICC World Cup 2019: KXIP has a hilarious reaction to Yuzvendra Chahal dismissing Kane Williamson
In the semis clash, Chahal was the most expensive bowler leaking 63 runs in his spell of 10 overs.
The first semi-final of the 2019 World Cup between India and New Zealand went into the reserve day with rain playing spoilsport on the match day. After winning the toss and opting to bat, the Black Caps crawled to 211 for five in 46.1 overs before the heavens opened up. Even as most of the Indian bowlers had a decent day, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal couldn’t quite deliver.
He was the most expensive bowler of the day for the Men in Blue, conceding 63 runs in his 10 overs. The tweaker also gave away eight wides, which showed that he wasn’t able to hit the right channels consistently. In fact, Colin de Grandhomme and Ross Taylor plundered 18 runs off his final over. Chahal’s only source of jubilation came when he trapped of Kiwis’ skipper Kane Williamson.
Chahal tricks Kane with a top-spinner
He got the prized scalp in 36th over with a top-spinner. The ball dipped on Kane and he went for an expansive drive through the covers. However, Williamson could only get the outer edge of the willow and sliced the ball to backward point where Ravindra Jadeja took a simple catch. The New Zealand captain was looking ominous, having notched 67 runs off 95 balls comprising six fours.
He came to bat after Jasprit Bumrah sent back Martin Guptill to hut in the fourth over of the match. First, Kane put on 68 with Henry Nicholls and then stitched together a 65-run partnership with the very experienced Ross Taylor. Kane is the Kiwis’ leading run-getter in this World Cup with a couple of centuries and Chahal would’ve been a relieved man after nipping out the big fish.
With his fifty-plus score, Kane also became the highest run-getter for New Zealand in a single World Cup campaign. After his dismissal, Taylor steadied the Kiwis’ ship with a half-century.
Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, had a rather hilarious reaction after Chahal dismissed the opposition captain. The IPL Twitter handle took to Twitter and wrote, “Chahal be like… “Pehli fursat mein nikal! (get out in the first instance!)’ #SaddaPunjab #CWC19 #INDvNZ,”
