Rohit Sharma continued his good run in the World Cup 2019 as he struck his 2nd century in only his 3rd innings of the tournament. The Indian opener took on the attack of the arch-rivals by smashing 14 fours and three sixes on his way through to a 113-ball 140. Rohit got to his fifty in only 34 deliveries and took 51 more to reach his second fifty. With 40 runs from his last 28 deliveries, Rohit was all set towards a big inning before scooping one to short fine-leg.
Major stats and records that Rohit created with his brilliant 140-run knock against Pakistan:
1 – Rohit Sharma became the first Indian to score back to back centuries against Pakistan in ODI cricket. Eight players before Rohit scored two or more hundreds for India in ODIs against Pakistan but none of them done it in back to back innings.
2 – Rohit is only the 2nd Indian to score a century against Pakistan in a major ICC tournament. Virat Kohli became the first when he scored 107 in 2015 at the Adelaide Oval.
4 – Number of centuries for Rohit in ODI format in England; the joint-most by a visiting batsman in this part of the World. Shikhar Dhawan and Viv Richards also scored four centuries apiece in the ODIs they played in England.
5 – Rohit Sharma scored his 5th consecutive fifty-plus score in ODI cricket; the first time he ever scored more than three successive ODI fifties. He is now the 5th Indian to score fifty and more in five consecutive ODI innings.
18 – Innings Rohit needed for completing 1000 ODI runs in England; the fewest by any player. He broke his teammate Shikhar Dhawan’s record which was achieved in 19 innings during the game against Australia. Sir Viv Richards was the quickest to 1000 ODI runs in England prior to these two openers as he needed 21 innings for this feat.
34 – Rohit’s 34-ball fifty is the fastest for him in the ODI format and also the fastest by any player in India-Pakistan World Cup games. Sachin Tendulkar’s 37-ball fifty in 2003 edition was the previous quickest fifty in an IND-PAK CWC fixture.
85 – The 85-ball century by Rohit is the 2nd fastest for an India in the World Cup against a full-member nation. Virat Kohli scored his century against Bangladesh in the 2011 CWC off 83 balls. Overall, Rohit’s 85-ball ton is the 5th fastest in the World Cups for India.
140 – Rohit’s 140-run knock is now the 2nd highest individual score by any player against Pakistan in the World Cup. Only Andrew Symonds (143 in 2003) scored more runs against Pakistan in a World Cup game.
203 – Rohit scored his 24 ODI century in the 203rd innings; the 4th fewest needed for any player. Only Hashim Amla (142), Virat Kohli (161) and AB de Villiers (192) have scored 24 ODI centuries in fewer innings than Rohit.
1130 – Rohit completed 1000 runs in ICC ODI events (CWC and CT) in his 21st innings. Only nine players including Rohit have got to 1000 runs in major ICC ODI tournaments in as few as 21 innings. His current average of 62.77 is the 4th best among the players with 1000 runs across these two tournaments.
