ICC World Cup 2019: Match 11, Pakistan vs Sri Lanka – Statistical Preview

Pakistan rebounded with a close win over the hot favourites England that too while defending their total of 348 in Nottingham which deemed to be an easy task for the hosts. The win was a much-needed one for the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led team who had not won an ODI since February and began this tournament with a big defeat over the Windies. They will be up against Sri Lanka who made a similar start to World Cup 2019 as they lost by a big margin against New Zealand before bouncing back against Afghanistan in a rain-affected game.

1 – Pakistan’s victory over England brought an end to their 11-match losing streak in completed ODI matches which is their worst in this format. Their last ODI win came way back in January against South Africa.
6 – Pakistan won each of their last six ODI matches against Sri Lanka. Last time they lost an ODI to the Lankans was in 2015 during the bilateral series hosted by the Island nation.
7 – Pakistan has won all their seven World Cup matches against Sri Lanka; the most by any team against an opponent without losing a game. India won all the six matches they played against Pakistan while Windies won six out of six against Zimbabwe in the ODI World Cups.
10 – Mohammad Amir has bagged ten wickets in the 32 overs he bowled across his previous four ODI innings in England. In these four games, Amir has taken 3-wicket hauls twice and two wickets in a game twice. Between CT 2017 and CWC 2019, Amir featured in 14 ODI matches outside England and got only five scalps to his name.

58.33 – Babar Azam has a batting average in ODI cricket against Sri Lanka; the best among players with 200+ runs in PAK-SL ODI matches. Babar scored 350 runs across seven innings against the Lankans with two tons and a fifty.
697 – The win against Afghanistan was the first time in 697 days that Lasith Malinga featured in an International win for Sri Lanka. Since being part of an ODI win on July 6th against Zimbabwe, Malinga featured in 22 ODIs and six T20Is prior to the game against Afghans but couldn’t end up on the winning side even once.
11990 – Angelo Mathews needs ten more runs to become the 8th player to score 12000 and more runs across all formats for Sri Lanka in Internationals. Mathews bagged ducks in both the games he played in this tournament.
