ICC World Cup 2019: Michael Hussey predicts India's squad for the tournament
He also made a choice between Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant as the second wicketkeeper.
Veteran batsman Mike Hussey has predicted India’s 15- member squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The Australian batting great has made some quirky decisions while determining the Virat Kohli-led Indian squad for the biggest ICC event. Recently we’ve heard a lot of speculations and opinions regarding the choice of a backup wicketkeeper for India. As of now, the management has confirmed 12 or 13 spots for the big tournament.
While legends like Sourav Ganguly have questioned Pant’s credibility yet given to inadequate sample space, Indian captain Virat Kohli has hinted that he is quite certainly considering the youngster for a World Cup spot. Ganguly had said that India would’ve been playing Karthik in this series against Australia had they been keen on selecting the 33-year-old. Mike Hussey, though, has a contrasting opinion regarding this.
While predicting the 15-member World Cup 2019 squad for India, the former Australian cricketer Mike Hussey left out the youngster Rishabh Pant. In fact, he selected Dinesh Karthik as his second-choice for wicketkeeper-batsman after veteran batsman MS Dhoni even though a general opinion says that Pant is more preferred than Karthik. Hussey has also kept KL Rahul as a back-up batsman and it’s justified since Virat Kohli has hinted that Rahul is still being considered.
Mike Hussey’s 15-member Indian squad for World Cup 2019
Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (C), Amabati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (WK), Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja
Hussey’s first choice of the Indian squad reflects a set batting order set with all-rounder Hardik Pandya taking a spot at the lower middle-order. Mr Cricket has asserted that Ambati Rayudu should be India’s No.4, a batting position that has been a puzzle for the management. The bowling attack includes Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah as the main pacers while keeping Shami as an extra option.
Chahal and Kuldeep are the two frontline spinners without a doubt. Hussey opines that India will be a tough team to beat at the big event that commences on May 30 in England and Wales. The Men in Blue are scheduled to play their first match against South Africa at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Wednesday, June 5.
