ICC World Cup 2019: Nasser Hussain reveals what makes Pakistan 'more dangerous'
"Talking of hit & miss, look at Pakistan."
With the Cricket World Cup 2019 edging closer with each passing day, the cricketing world is busy predicting the teams which have in them to go all the way. The popular opinion favours host England and India. While England are currently the top-ranked side in ODIs at the moment, India are breathing down their neck at second. However, former England skipper Nasser Hussain has come up with a different opinion.
Hussain feels the race to win the upcoming World Cup is ‘wide open’. One of the reasons behind Hussain’s prediction can be the format of the World Cup. Contrary to the recent group-stage formats, this year’s format will see all the ten teams playing against each other once. The four teams will then make it to the semifinal and then eventually two will fight it out for the coveted title. And Hussain cited Pakistan’s example to state that the twelfth edition of the World Cup can be won by any team.
Over the year’s, Pakistan have built a reputation of being the most unpredictable team in the world. On one day, they come up with a performance that is least expected from an international heavyweight and on the very next day, they can make the best teams in the world look like ordinary ones. Pakistan were recently whitewashed 5-0 by Australia. However, Hussain feels their current form makes them even more dangerous.
“Talking of hit & miss, look at Pakistan. They’re playing terrible ODI cricket at the moment but that almost makes them more dangerous. One day they’re down the next they’re brilliant, as they showed in the Champions Trophy. So it’s wide open, it really is,” Hussain was quoted as saying in Pak Passion.
No clear favourites:
Well, one cannot argue much with Hussain on his prediction that the upcoming World Cup has one or two clear favourites. Windies recently drew with England in the ODIs to show that the world number one side is beatable and also proved their World Cup credentials. Defending champions Australia seem to have rediscovered their old mojo too with thumping wins over India and Pakistan. The likes of Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and South Africa cannot be ruled out too while Bangladesh and Afghanistan also know a thing or two about springing surprises.
