ICC World Cup 2019: Sarfaraz Ahmed names Pakistan’s gun bowler for the tournament
"I am sure that he will perform very well."
As far as the ODI format is concerned, Pakistan hasn’t had the best of runs for quite some time. Even in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) rankings, the Men in Green are placed in the sixth spot. In the recently concluded ODI series against Australia in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the team management decided to rest quite a few of their big guns and got whitewashed 5-0.
One of the players, who didn’t play was fast bowler Hasan Ali. The 24-year-old was a part of the runners-up Peshawar Zalmi and was one of their key bowlers, albeit the youngster went wickeless in the final against the Quetta Gladiators. The Mandi Bahauddin-born finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 25 wickets from 13 matches at an average of 13.64.
Sarfaraz believes in Hasan Ali
The much-awaited World Cup is scheduled to get underway on May 30 in England and Pakistan will play their first match on Friday, May 31 at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. In the meantime, Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed feels that Hasan will step up and deliver in the mega-event.
“In the PSL, Hasan Ali bowled really well and once or twice when I faced him, he did not allow me to hit out. Hasan Ali is our key bowler and the way he has shown his commitment by becoming the best bowler in the PSL, I am sure that he will perform very well for Pakistan in the World Cup,” Sarfaraz was quoted as saying in Pak Passion.
Despite the series loss to Australia, Pakistan will have a chance to make amends as they’ll play a five-match ODI series against England in the latter’s den, starting Wednesday, May 8. Prior to that, Pakistan will also play a solitary T20I at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Their World Cup squad is yet to be announced.
