Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has tipped India to win the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales. Virat Kohli & co. have looked one of the most dominant teams in the world in the last couple of years or so. In fact, their performance in the last 12 months has pretty much proved their World Cup credentials.

After beating South Africa 5-1, they lost the ODI series in England 2-1. However, they quickly bounced back to regain the momentum. The Men in Blue won the Asia Cup, dismantling every team that came their way en route to the title despite missing their talismanic skipper Virat Kohli. Windies proved no match either when they visited India for the series in October. A tough test was in line for Team India in Australia and New Zealand but they won both the series comfortably.

The Virat Kohli-led side beat Australia 2-1 before thrashing New Zealand 4-1. With the team showing no or little signs of weakness, Ganguly has called them the favourites to lift the title in England.

“India are favourites, they have played good cricket for the last 6-7 months, they are very prepared for the World Cup,” Ganguly said on the sidelines of a program of HCL Foundation. “This is the best possible team, all of them have performed and that’s why they are in the squad,” he added.

India are currently gearing up to take on Australia in a two-match T20I series and five-match ODI series. The T20Is will start on February 24 before the ODIs get underway on March 2.

Cut ties with Pakistan

The legendary batsman, nonetheless, also called for cutting all sporting ties with Pakistan in the wake of Pulwama terror attack which claimed lives of 44 CRPF personnel martyred. He said that India should boycott Pakistan in the World Cup before adding that boycotting the game would not make much of a difference for India.

“This is a 10-team World Cup and each team plays matches against every other team and I feel if India doesn’t play a match in the World Cup, it won’t be an issue,” Ganguly told India TV.
