The hopes on the World Cup title rose for the Windies when they thrashed Pakistan in their opening game with a short ball barrage. However, the Caribbean team’s tactics did not work to such extent in the following games as they failed to add one more win to their tally in the next seven matches. They finally put an end to their misery in their last league game by defeating Afghanistan who couldn’t win even one match in the whole tournament.

All the stats and numbers recorded by Windies during the 2019 World Cup:

2 – Two players scored centuries for Windies in this tournament – Carlos Brathwaite and Nicholas Pooran; both during unsuccessful chases. In the first 11 World Cup editions, only one individual ton came in the losing cause for the Windies.

3 – Number of times Windies posted 300+ totals in this tournament; the joint most times by them in an ODI series/tournament. Windies had three such scores during the 2002 ODI series in India and also during the 2015 World Cup.

6 – Windies lost six matches in this tournament; the most in a single edition of World Cup surpassing five defeats in 2007. Overall, this was only the 3rd time that they lost as many as six matches in an ODI series/tournament. They lost the 7-match ODI series against South Africa in 1999 by 1-6 margin and were defeated in as many as seven matches during the 2001 Tri-Series in Australia.

16 – Shai Hope has taken 16 catches behind the stumps in this edition; the joint 3rd most by any keeper and the most by a Windies keeper in a World Cup. Jeff Dujon claimed 15 catches in the 1983 edition where they ended as runners up. Dujon had 16 dismissals in that tournament including a stumping; the most dismissals by a Windies keeper in a CWC edition alongside Shai Hope.

315/9 – Windies posted their first 300+ total in a World Cup chase when they made 315/9 against Sri Lanka in an unsuccessful chase. Their previous highest total while chasing in World Cup was 289/9 against South Africa in 2007 in pursuit of the 357-run target.

367 – Nicholas Pooran finished with 367 runs which are the 3rd most number of runs scored in a World Cup edition for Windies. He is also the first Windies player to score 300+ runs in debut World Cup.

Sir Viv Richards amassed 391 runs from six innings during the 1987 edition and exactly 367 runs in the 1983 tournament across seven innings. Ramnaresh Sarwan scored 375 runs in ten innings during 2007.
