'If he is available, you pick him' - Harbhajan Singh on MS Dhoni's comeback to Indian team

In the past few months, there have been many speculations about Dhoni’s return to the Indian team. The former Indian captain decided to take a break from international cricket after the 2019 world cup. Since then, he has not made himself available for the selection in the Indian team.

It was expected that Dhoni will play the IPL which will then give him an opportunity to come back to the national side for the ICC men’s T20 World Cup 2020. But now, due to the coronavirus crisis, the IPL has been postponed indefinitely. There are no chances when the tournament will be played. This has created doubts over Dhoni’s return. Harbhajan Singh, the former Indian off-spinner, has expressed his opinions regarding this.

Harbhajan while expressing his views on Dhoni’s comeback said that how should anyone decide whether he should be back in the Indian team or not. He said the question which needs to be answered is whether Dhoni’s IPL form should be considered or the fact that he is one of India’s greatest players and captains.

“How do you judge Dhoni? Do you see his IPL form or give him respect and consider the fact that he is one of India’s greatest players and captains. The guy has done a lot for Indian cricket,” Harbhajan Singh said as quoted by India Today.

Harbhajan, who is contracted with Chennai Super Kings, also said that Dhoni is a big player and no one needs to tell him if he is capable or not. He said if Dhoni is available, India team should pick him if they think they need Dhoni.

“MS Dhoni is a big big player. He doesn’t need to be told if he is capable or not. So I don’t think you need to ponder too much about it. If you think you need Dhoni, and if he is available, you pick him”, Harbhajan said.

Harbhajan Singh was bought by CSK before the 2018 season. The spinner has done pretty well with the franchise. In the previous season, Harbhajan picked up 16 wickets from 11 matches. He was one of the best bowlers for the team in the last year’s IPL.
