'I'm semi-retired' - Chris Gayle says he will bow out in front of his home crowd in Jamaica
Chris Gayle also added that he would like to play one more World Cup for the West Indies side, but will not be allowed to do so.
West Indies cricket legend Chris Gayle seemingly signaled that he has retired from international cricket after he was dismissed for 15 runs against Australia on 6th November 2021. The big-hitting left-hander walked off to an ovation from his teammates and even raised his bat to the crowd as well.
And now, Gayle has revealed that he was having some fun and he is semi-retired. However, the 42-year-old confirmed that he has played his last World Cup match for the West Indies side. Gayle also added that he would like to play one more World Cup for the West Indies side, but will not be allowed to do so.
“I’m semi-retired. I’m one away. I was just having some fun today. Put everything that happened aside. I was just interacting with the fans in the stands and just having some fun seeing as it’s going to be my last World Cup game. I’d love to play one more World Cup. But I don’t think they will allow me,” said Gayle after the match between Australia and West Indies.

Chris Gayle also added that he has had a phenomenal career and he has been given an opportunity to sign off from the game in front of his home crowd in Jamaica. Gayle also added that if that does not happen, then he will join Dwayne Bravo, who retired from international cricket and will thank everybody.
“It’s been a phenomenal career. I didn’t announce any retirement but they actually gave me one game in Jamaica to go in front of my home crowd, then I can say ‘hey guys, thank you so much. Let’s see. If not, I’ll announce it, long time and then I’ll be joining DJ Bravo in the backend and say thanks to each and everyone but I can’t say that as yet,” concluded Chris Gayle.
In a career that has lasted over two decades, Chris Gayle played 103 Tests, 301 ODIs, and 79 T20Is for the West Indies side.
