The former England captain Michael Vaughan has been highly active on social media with his viewpoints regarding the live matches or shares his views on the team selections of different teams. In his latest interaction, Vaughan reckoned that he is impressed by the calmness of Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant. His comments comes after the team was rocked with multiple Covid-19 cases in the camp.
Vaughan felt that DC’s opening combination is rock-solid, with Prithvi Shaw and David Warner providing quickfire starts to the team in the last few matches. He heaped praise on Pant for his calmness and thinks he is leading the team in a perfect manner. He thinks that the southpaw has shown maturity in this season, rather than being excited, as he had expected ahead of the 2022 edition of IPL.
“That opening combination is such a key part of the Delhi method, Prithvi Shaw and David Warner coming out and opening aggressively. And then the skipper himself, who is settling into the job quite nicely. I have been impressed by Rishabh’s captaincy, he has been a lot calmer than I thought he would be. I thought he would be a bit excited but really impressed by his calmness,” Vaughan was quoted by Hindustan Times.
Ricky Ponting would want Shaw and Warner to play aggressive cricket: Michael Vaughan
Vaughan also said that the head coach of DC, Ricky Ponting, will surely be desperate for wins under the belt. He further went on to say that Ponting would want the whole team to play smart, but he would especially want Warner and Pant to provide aggressive starts to the team in the powerplay overs. In the last fixture, DC chased down the target of 116 in just 10.3 overs, with the opening partnership of 83 runs. DC now have three wins in six league matches of IPL 2022.
“You are just desperate when you need to win a match for one of your better players to show up and do something special. I think Ricky will be telling the team collectively to play smart but he will also be going to bed thinking, ‘come on Davey’ or ‘come on Prithvi’. Just one of you get off to a flying start, get a century and that pretty much does the trick in T20 cricket,” Vaughan added.
