Imran Khan in full support for Navjot Singh Sidhu surrounding peace between India and Pakistan
Sidhu also said that hatred can only result in nothing, but bloodshed.
Former Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan recently became the 22nd Prime Minister of the country. His party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf won the General Elections, conducted on July 25 after which the 65-year-old took the oath-taking ceremony in Islamabad on August 18. The event was attended by a number of eminent personalities, former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu was one of them.
However, Sidhu’s actions didn’t go down well with a number of his countrymen. He also hugged Pakistan army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and his gesture was severely criticised in India. In the meantime, the 54-year-old sounded confident about the improvement of relations between the two nations after his ‘personal friend’ became the Prime Minister.
“My hope has strengthened after my personal friend became the prime minister of Pakistan after a struggle of years. I can say with full confidence that relations between both the nations would be enhanced,” Sidhu was quoted as saying in Scroll.in.
Nothing except negativity was gained by blood-shedding
Moreover, he also mentioned that Imran supports him for restoring peace between the countries, which have been in loggerheads with each other over quite some time. “But when I returned from Pakistan and some ‘nok-jhonk’ [bickering] took place, the message from my friend [Imran Khan] came that ‘we want peace… you take one step and we will take two’,” Sidhu remarked.
Sidhu also said that hatred can only result in nothing, but bloodshed and mayhem across the borders. Moreover, he put forth the examples of personalities like Late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Indian captain Virat Kohli and legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who can appeal to the people through their areas of expertise.
“Nothing except negativity was gained by blood-shedding. Sportsmen or cricketers, be it Wasim Akram, Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli, or artists like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan… They associate with people and I, too, went to Pakistan with this hope only,” he added.
