Imran Khan is all set to be crowned as the Prime Minister of Pakistan as the results of the General Elections in the country have unfurled on Thursday. Out of the 272 National Assembly constituencies, his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) is leading in 119 seats and 137 is the number which they are targetting. Even though PTI doesn’t manage to reach the magical number, the former Pakistan skipper will become the first cricketer to be elected as the PM of a country.
Social media is abuzz ever since the results came out and prominent celebrities are busy congratulating him for winning the elections. His first wife Jemima Goldsmith also tweeted for him and hoped that he works for the betterment of the country, the reason for which he had entered politics in first place.
She also put light on the 22-year struggle of her ex-husband in the political field in her tweet which read, “22 years later, after humiliations, hurdles and sacrifices, my sons’ father is Pakistan’s next PM. It’s an incredible lesson in tenacity, belief & refusal to accept defeat. The challenge now is to remember why he entered politics in the 1st place. Congratulations @ImranKhanPTI.”
Vaughan and Akhtar join
There is no question that Imran Khan winning the elections has delighted the World and the cricketing fraternity is also excited over the same. Kapil Dev was the first one to congratulate him for the victory and the former England cricketer Michael Vaughan has also expressed his delight. He upvoted the tweet of Jemima and termed Imran’s win as the ‘Great News.’ Even Shoaib Akhtar was happy that he was being congratulated from England and thanked his wife for her royal wishes.
The 65-year-old has already expressed his desire to strengthen the relations between India and Pakistan while addressing the media on Thursday. “I really want to fix the India-Pakistan ties through dialogue. Because of cricket, I want better ties with the neighbouring country,” he said.
