In wake of Hardik-Rahul ruckus, BCCI also has complaints against CoA

The recent controversy around Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul has been the big thing in Indian cricket of late. However, apart from the fact that the controversy has earned the cricketers brickbats, there has also been a disappointment in the ranks of the administration in the wake of the episode. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also used the opportunity to slam the supreme court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA).

Double standards in CoA’s mode of functioning?

On Friday, members of the BCCI met in Mumbai where they took a strong dig at the CoA and also expressed concern over its functioning. The board members, among other things, expressed shock at what they felt double standards in dealing with issues related to players. They felt while the players were served show-cause notices and even suspended pending inquiry, the CEO was not handed such treatment while issues related to him were handled.

They also felt that in case of the executive, the inquiry procedure that was adopted was arbitrary and in violation of the board’s constitution and in the absence of any decision from the CoA as a committee, a report in India Today mentioned.

The members also reportedly expressed shock at the manner in which decision was being made in the CoA where one member was being ignored while decisions of others were being executed irregularly. The members were not happy over the way resources of the BCCI were expanded on such irregular decisions.

The members, as per the report, also lashed out at the fact that the CoA willingly ignored decisions taken in the Special General Meeting held in June last year that was solely in the General Body’s domain despite the fact that it was a meeting requisitioned by the members and only those who were eligible as per the Lodha recommendations were present. It was allegedly an act to frustrate the democratic functioning and policy-making of the cricket board.

The board members praised the efforts put in by the member of cricket associations, which fielded teams that made debut in the domestic circuit.
