Team India had a grilling practice session recently. The Virat Kohli-led side will be taking on Sri Lanka in the first Test that commences on November 16 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. One of the major attractions of the training session was ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin has missed the recent fixtures of the Indian side against Australia and New Zealand. He had to make way for the youngsters in the limited overs.

Now, with the Test series coming up, both Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja – who has had a similar fate – have been brought back in the squad. Ravichandran Ashwin is currently ranked number one in the ICC Test rankings. Interestingly, he was seen trying out variations in the practice session. As per the reports in Xtratime.in, he bowled a lot of leg breaks in the practice session. Expect the number one ranked Test bowler to try these out against the Islanders soon.

Batsmen facing short deliveries

In the batting department, Ajinkya Rahane was seen practising hard for his sweep shots. He played a lot of sweeps against Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav. The batsmen, Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli were seen facing the throw downs from the support staff at the session. Rahane had the longest session at work on the day. This can be seen as a preparation for the longer run as India are scheduled to tour South Africa next.

Meanwhile, the Saurashtra duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Cheteshwar Pujara opted to take rest from the practice. The players, Rahane and Rohit Sharma, were also seen inspecting the pitch alongside head coach Ravi Shastri. Surprisingly enough, the team India practice had some surprise visitors too.

The Sri Lankan team management ended up watching team India’s practice session. Sri Lanka captain Chandimal was accompanied with coach Nic Pothas, bowling coach Rumesh Ratnayeke , batting coach Samarweera and manager Ashanka Gurusinha at the venue.
