IND vs AFG: Rain threat looming over the historic Test match
All eyes will be on the behaviour of the pitch which will remain under the covers ahead of the game.
India and Afghanistan will lock horns in the one-off historic Test from June 14 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. The visitors will make their debut in the longest format of the game after earning the status of a Test playing nation last year. But there are significant chances of rain spoiling the historic occasion.
Afghanistan is riding high on confidence after whitewashing Bangladesh albeit in the T20 Internationals and would love to continue in the same vein. They have stacked the side with four quality spinners and the attack will be undoubtedly led by the ever so wily Rashid Khan. It will not be an easy task for them to topple the World Number 1 side in Tests despite the fact that India is playing without their regular skipper Virat Kohli.
Will it be a washout?
According to Meteorological Centre, the forecast during the match days is not so encouraging and there are chances of a thundershower. Moreover, the second and third day is likely to be affected the most as the chances of rain are higher as per Sportstar. Though there is nothing to worry for the fans if there are brief spells of a heavy shower during the game courtesy of the best drainage system at Stadium.
With the installation of the sub-air sub-surface aeration and vacuum-powered drainage system, Chinnaswamy Stadium is well-equipped. The technology doesn’t allow the excessive rain to damage the outfield and the system is capable of draining water 36 times faster than the normal standards which will lead to the quick resumption.
All eyes will be on the pitch as well with the hosts banking on their spinners more often than not to bamboozle the visiting teams. But this time the opposition is likely to pose a threat if the turning pitch comes to the fore. Also, the behaviour of the surface will change if it remains under the covers for most of the time in the lead up to the encounter.
