IND vs SL: Rohit Sharma imitates Faf du Plessis' batting stance in dressing room
Rohit was caught shadow practicing with du Plessis' stance in the dressing room.
India are locking horns with Sri Lanka in the first Test match at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. This match is a special occasion for two of the country’s modern-day batting greats- Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. While Kohli is making his 100th appearance in the longest format, Rohit is leading the Indian team for the very first time in Test cricket.
While the focus was on India’s new Test captain, cameras captured some of his dressing room moments as well. One of those was of him expressing disappointment over Kohli’s dismissal for 45, the other was a unique one that stood out from the rest as he paid tribute to one of the veteran overseas batters Faf du Plessis.
IND vs SL: Rohit Sharma hilariously mimics Faf du Plessis
This happened in the 43rd over of the first innings when Virat Kohli was still going strong at 40 and suddenly, the cameras focused on the dressing room where the Hitman was seen imitating the former South African skipper Faf du Plessis’ batting stance in a hilarious manner, Not once but, Rohit tried to pull out a Faf thrice before the focus was shifted back towards the game on the field.
Coming back to the contest, the Mumbai cricketer did not have a great time in the first innings as he went back to the dressing room for just 29 runs to his name after winning the toss and electing to bat first.
Even Kohli could not make the most of his iconic moment as he was castled by Lasith Embuldeniya just five runs short of what would have been a well-deserved fifty. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant took the responsibility for keeping the scoreboard ticking and batted exceptionally well for his 96-run knock.
Unfortunately, just when he was on the verge of the three-figure mark, the youngster was castled by Suranga Lakmal. Middle-order specialist Ravindra Jadeja then took the initiative of taking the hosts to a mammoth total and remained unbeaten on 45 as India ended Day 1 at 357/6.
