Independence Day 2021: Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir lead cricket fraternity in wishing fellow Indians
India has completed 74 years on Independence this year.
As India observes its 75th Independence Day on August 2021, the people of the nation are celebrating the occasion with great pride and honour. On the auspicious occasion, Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, and many other prominent members of the cricket fraternity took to Twitter and extended greetings to fellow Indians. While several expressed their love for the nation, many also paid tribute to the freedom fighters.
For the unversed, the nation has completed 74 years on Independence this year. On the occasion, social media got flooded with greetings as many countrymen posted heartfelt notes for the nation. Usually, on Independence Day, flag-hosting ceremonies are conducted in schools, offices, and other places. However, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has restricted the celebrations this year with safety being the top-most priority.
Cricket Stars showers greetings on Independence Day
Meanwhile, several cricket stars have also made India proud on the global stage. Talismans like Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh and Anil Kumble put up numerous sensational performances and took Team India to many memorable triumphs. In fact, the Indian cricket team won the World Cup as many as three times. Hence, on the occasion of Independence Day 2021, the cricket stars took the opportunity and showcased their devotion to the nation.
Notably, a set of Indian cricketers will be in action on Independence Day as well. Under Virat Kohli’s leadership, Team India is battling out with England in the second Test of the five-match series at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Stadium. Both teams have been neck-to-neck so far and it would be interesting to see how the remaining game unfolds.
For the unversed, the visitors were asked to bat first at the Mecca of Cricket with England skipper Joe Root winning the toss. However, the decision didn’t seem to be spot-on as Indian openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma put up an exhibition of high-class batting. While Rohit was dismissed for 83, Rahul advanced to his sixth Test ton.
Skipper Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja also chipped in with notable contributions as India posted 364 runs. While the visitors would have been pleased with their batting effort, England bounced back and mustered 391 runs. Skipper Joe Root slammed a marvelous century while Jonny Bairstow also made a well-compiled fifty. Hence, the game is perfectly poised and fans must brace themselves to witness some exciting action on India’s Independence Day which happens to be Day 4 of the contest.
