Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has come out in support of Team India after their humiliating loss to New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2021. Having lost their opening fixture against Pakistan, the Men in Blue were expected to make a strong comeback against the Kiwis. However, they got outplayed once again as New Zealand recorded a comfortable eight-wicket triumph at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

With India losing their first two fixtures in the global competition, their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals have also become thinner.  In fact, this was the first instance of India losing two successive matches in T20 World Cup. Needless to mention, fans and experts weren’t amused as Virat Kohli faced criticism from different quarters. Some disgruntled netizens even hurled abuses at the Indian players.

Abusing players and their family is such a shame: Mohammad Amir

However, Amir has lent support to Team India and slammed their critics. Taking to Twitter, the left-arm speedster said India is still the best team and will bounce back. “I still believe India is a best team its just a matter of having good time or bad time but abusing player’s and their family is such a shame don’t forget end of the day it’s just a game of cricket,” tweeted the 29-year-old.

Speaking of how the game panned out, India were restricted to a paltry 110/7 while batting first in Dubai. While the bowlers were expected to bounce back, nothing as such happened as the Kiwis crossed the line in 14.3 overs, winning the game by eight wickets. The Indian skipper didn’t shy away from accepting that his side was entirely outplayed.

“I don’t think we were brave enough with bat or ball. We didn’t have much to defend but we weren’t brave when we walked onto the field. Whenever we looked to take the game on, we lost a wicket. That happens in T20 cricket when some hesitation set in,” Kohli said after the match.

Meanwhile, India don’t have matters in their own hands anymore as they need to pray for other match results alongside winning their remaining games. The Men in Blue are slated to take on Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia. As India’s net run rate is also on the lower side, they must aim to all these encounters handsomely.
